Lensectomy is a method for removing a lens or cataract from the eye. It is performed in some cases of lens dislocation or in urgent retinal conditions requiring vitrectomy. Following the procedure, the surgeon may insert an intraocular lens implant or leave the eye without a lens.

The risks of lensectomy include pain, inflammation, detached retina, corneal damage, iris damage, macular edema, changes in glasses prescription, vision loss, bleeding, and infection.
