Scleral Buckle Surgery in Sarasota, Manatee County, FL

Scleral Buckle surgery is a procedure for fixing retinal detachments. This procedure involves placing a silicone band around the “equator” of the eye that indents the wall of the eye. This indentation brings the wall of the eye closer to the retina and assists in closing the retinal tear(s) responsible for the detached retina. Freezing treatment or an injection of a gas bubble may also be used to close the retinal break(s). In some cases, a scleral buckle is used in combination with a vitrectomy.
